The Story of Stuff and our waste of resources

This week a customer came into the store and told me about a 20 min. video on YouTube called "The story of stuff". It has been viewed over 2 million times and it discribes the process of manufacture and disposal of all the items we purchase. It is very much written in a enviormental concern approach to get everyone to consider the products they buy and where they come from. Not in terms of country of origin but the resources that are used to make the product.

I am constantly being asked what knives I would recommend for a customer

In the store I am constantly being asked what knives I would recommend to a customer. This is a very difficult question for me because we want customers to try each knife before we make comments. When a customer is looking for one knife we recommend a chef knife. This knife will do 85% of all your knife use including chopping and carving. All the knives we carry will last a lifetime but each one will feel different in your hands.

Sharpening Your Kitchen Knife

knife sharpening

Every kitchen deserves a good knife. It is the one item that is used to prepare most meals and is generally in need of sharpening. At Entertaining Elements we sharpen knives on a water stone system but if a knife is properly looked after it will only require sharpening professionally every four years. I must use my words carefully because this statement only holds with high quality steel. German, Japanese and some Swiss made knives have  high strength steel. Many Chinese made knives are made with softer steel which does not hold the edge.

Fairways and Friends Donation brings $1200 for Charity

Entertaining Elements donated a Dinner for 8 to "Fairways and Friends" golf tournament and at the live auction the Dinner raised $1200.00 for Charity. Thanks to all those that bid on the event and we look forward to seeing the winners in the store for dinner soon. Year to date the Donations of dinners by Entertaining Elements has raised in excess of $15,000 for charities.
